Pasture Rangeland and Forage Pilot Insurance Program
Available in 48 contiguous states providing coverage on Pasture Rangeland and Forage acres. PRF utilizes a rainfall index and does not measure loss of production. Designed to help protect a producer's operation from the risk of forage loss due to lack of precipitation. Coverage is selected for haying or grazing and ranges between 70 and 90 percent. A productivity factor is elected based on the county's base value for haying or grazing acres. Amount of acres are determined by insurable interest the producer has and wants to enroll. Index intervals are then selected on a two month basis to apply coverage by a percentage. For example a producer may elect to put 50% of their coverage in the January/February interval and 50% of their coveage in the May/June interval. Each grid is unique and each producer has their own intervals that are most important to their operation when deciding where to apply coverage. Grid can be located using the USDA's Grid ID Locator, historical indices tool, and decision support tools.
