Siskiyou County California is a very large and diverse County. There are a lot of acres used for haying and grazing. The Pasture Rangeland and Forage Pilot Insurance Program in Siskiyou County helps provide coverage for cattle ranchers and hay growers where there hasn't been a program before. PRF Insurance covers one peril, lack of precipitation. This program is available in every county in every state except Hawaii and Alaska. The program offers coverage in grids, which are sections throughout the county where producers land is. Producers then select two month intervals to place coverage on within their grid, and if the final grid index for those intervals is below the trigger index there is a payable claim. All claims are automated after the index is finalized using the NOAA weather data, and must be paid within sixty days of the end of the interval. In 2019 there 98,178 acres enrolled in the Pasture Rangeland and Forage program in Siskiyou County. Areas like, Macdoel, Montague,  Fort Jones, Tulelake and the forest service allotments throughout the National Forests in Siskiyou County have acres insured.
