Pasture Rangeland Forage (PRF) Modoc County California

The hot and dry conditions of 2020 are evident throughout California. Modoc County is no exception to that with lower than average precipitation throughout the year. With less rainfall comes less production for grazing and haying. The Pasture Rangeland Forage (PRF) was created to help producers on years where rainfall is less than average. PRF in Modoc County has been helping hundreds of cattle ranchers and hay farmers. In 2020 there are 528,128 acres enrolled in the PRF program throughout Modoc County. This year has been a drought year for all of California, and the Pasture Rangeland Forage Program has been paying claims to producers for that reason. Here is some more information about the program:

  • November 15th, 2020 deadline to sign up for 2021
  • No upfront cost, billing goes out September 2021
  • Simple enrollment process
  • Pays producer directly, claims are automated
  • Available on haying and grazing acres
  • Affordable protection against drought
  • When rainfall is less than 90% of average it triggers a claim
  • USDA subsidized making it affordable for ranchers and farmers
